Anchor Activity Scheme

For many years the Anchor Section had only one award scheme where boys worked towards the “10 Anchor Achievements” in their final year. There is now a new scheme called the Anchor Activity Scheme. Instead of having one badge with ten activities, this new scheme has three badges with a total of 48 activities and is split over three years. The Activity Scheme uses material under the following five headings:-

  • Body – “fit for fun”

A variety of games and physical activities

  • Mind – “think and do”

Puzzles and quizzes, thinking games and treasure hunts, hobbies etc.

  • Spirit – “God and me”

Prayers and worship, bible stories and characters and Christian festivals.

  • Community – “me and my world”

Conservation, the local community, the church and helping others.

  • Creativity – “make and do”

Crafts, simple cooking, mime and drama.

The scheme offers a wide range of activities which will keep the boys interested and entertained. The badge work will form part of a normal evenings activities and most activities are only designed to take around 5-10 minutes to complete. Details of the requirements of each badge are given below.

  • Green Badge – the “1st Award” (Age 5/6)

12 activities, 2 from each of the five categories with 2 extra topics chosen from any area.

  • Red Badge – the “2nd Award” (Age 6/7)

18 activities, 3 from each of the five categories with 3 extra topics chosen from any area.

  • Blue Badge – the “3rd Award” (Age 7/8)

18 activities, 3 from each of the five categories with 3 extra topics chosen from any area.

  • 3 Year Service Badge

Awarded for three years of service in the Anchor Boys.

We have decided to award the badges at Parents’ night. The metal badges are green, red and blue with a BB crest in the centre with a pin-on fastening. Once the boys have been awarded a badge it will become part of their uniform and they must wear it on an armband on the right arm.

When the boys are promoted to Junior Section they will wear the highest badge earned during their time in the Anchor Boys which will also be worn when they move to the Company Section.
